Assessment Services
Neuropsychological Evaluations
A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation is an integrated assessment of a child’s cognitive, academic, and psychological functioning. These evaluations are useful in providing diagnostic clarity, delineating areas of competence and vulnerability in a child’s learning profile, and identifying appropriate interventions. A comprehensive written report is provided within one month of the testing appointment ($4,250).
Intelligence Testing
A standardized assessment of intelligence using the WISC-V or WAIS-IV which yields a Full Scale IQ score and some general, but limited, information about your child’s cognitive functioning. These brief assessments are most often requested to assist with the admissions process to independent/private schools. A written report is provided within three days of the testing appointment ($975).
Consultation Services
Additional consultation services such as attendance at special education team meetings, additional feedback sessions, or classroom observations are billed separately on an hourly basis. Dr. Murphy is also available to provide consultation to parents who have had their child evaluated through their school but have questions about next steps, have questions or concerns about their child’s learning or academic progress, or are concerned about helping their child reach their full potential. Consultations are billed on an hourly basis ($250/hour).

What is the process for a neuropsychological evaluation?
The neuropsychological evaluation begins with an intake interview which is completed with the parents, guardians or caregivers. This appointment is typically about an hour long and is usually virtual and takes place about a week prior to the testing appointment with your child. Your concerns about your child will be discussed and Dr. Murphy will gather details about your child’s developmental, medical and academic history.
The next step in the evaluation process is the testing appointment with your child. This appointment is held in-person in Dr. Murphy’s office in Wellesley. It is completed one-on-one and typically takes approximately 4-6 hours including short breaks and a longer lunch break. Most children can complete the testing in one day. However, if your child is fatigued or frustrated, a second appointment can be scheduled to complete the testing. Parents or caregivers will be asked to complete questionnaires during this appointment. Teacher questionnaires may also be used to gather information about a child’s functioning in the school setting.
A family feedback session is scheduled approximately two weeks after the testing session. This is often a virtual appointment that lasts from 60-90 minutes. In this meeting, Dr. Murphy will review and discuss the results of the evaluation and will provide recommendations for school-based services and/or other interventions. The feedback session will provide parents and caregivers with a plan for supporting their child moving forward. A comprehensive written report is provided to the family with a summary of strengths and weaknesses, relevant diagnoses (if needed), and recommendations for treatment and support. In many cases, parents and caregivers may choose to submit the report to their child’s school or treating clinician.
